As a child, watching Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon, I was fascinated by the banks of computer operators responsible for supporting operations from a distance of 240,000 miles.  At the same time Star Trek was painting in vivid colour a positive and optimistic view of how warp engines would enable us to journey to and beyond the stars.

Starting my sales career at Yellow Pages was far from exotic but did provide a firm foundation of basic skills that would serve me well in years to come. Joining the tech sector in the early boom years of the late 80’s I saw, in the rise of Microsoft and the retreat of IBM from the PC market, how quickly this volatile sector can change. More than that, venturing into management for the first time, I learnt an important lesson from one of the first people I hired – that we need to consider and value the differences between us if we are going to fulfil our potential as individuals and as a team. My approach since then has been to try to coach not manage; by understanding the talents in a team and how they can best combine to get results we all want.

My work now, as Managing Director of Sales Code, is dedicated to helping technology companies achieve and exceed their goals by combining best practice sales management with the use of smart systems that enable higher employee and, therefore customer engagement. This balance between people and process is at the heart of what we do.
